Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria
Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria is a public university in Nigeria. The Federal Government Research University of Zaria is located in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. As the University of Northern Nigeria, ABU was established on October 4, 1962.
The institution has two campuses in Zaria: Samaru (main) and Kongo. In Funtua, a few kilometers from the university’s main campus, there is a pre-degree school. Physical sciences, biological sciences, social sciences, arts and languages, education, environmental design, engineering, medical sciences, agricultural sciences, and research facilities are all located on the Samaru campus. The colleges of Law and Administration are located on the Kongo campus. Accounting, Business Administration, Local Government and Development Studies, and Public Administration are among the departments in the Faculty of Administration. Additionally, the university is responsible for other institutions and programmes at other locations.
It is named after Sokoto’s Sardauna, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, Northern Nigeria’s first premier.
The university provides undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide range of subjects (and offers associate degrees and vocational and remedial programmes). It boasts a strong medical department and its own ABU Teaching Hospital, which is one of Nigeria’s and Africa’s largest teaching hospitals.
The departments of Insurance and Actuarial Science, Accounting, and Business Administration were relocated from Kongo to Samaru in September 2021. (Business school).

Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria Past and Present Vice-chancellors
The chancellor is the ceremonial leader of Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria while the vice-chancellor is the top executive and academic officer. Vice-chancellors are normally appointed for a five-year term that is not renewable. Professor Ibrahim Garba, the 14th and current vice-chancellor, began office on May 1, 2015. The following is a list of all ABU vice-chancellors. The number 8 in the series is a sole-administrator chosen by the then-head of state, Sani Abacha, after a huge conflict.
